Monika and Blake begin working together
Monika and Blake first work together at DHI in their Gold Coast office in 2010. By this time, Blake has been at DHI for six years and has developed a passion for floodplain management. Monika has previously travelled to Australia and worked at DHI Gold Coast for three months in 2008. In 2010 Monika relocates from Denmark to join DHI in a full time capacity.
Over the next three years, Monika and Blake work together on projects across Australia and overseas developing a solid foundation for their future business partnership.
Birth of Water Modelling Solutions
Out of a desire to branch out beyond MIKE software and believing there would be a lot to learn from local government, Blake leaves DHI in 2012 after eight years for a six month contract with City of Gold Coast. Before leaving DHI, Water Modelling Solutions is established to ensure that growth beyond contracting can occur easily down the track.
In late 2012, Water Modelling Solutions enters payment plan arrangements to obtain licenses for MIKE FLOOD and XP-RAFTS before any project work is obtained.
Further contracting and completion of first project work
In February 2013, Blake commences contracting part time to Toowoomba Regional Council, whilst continuing to contract part time to City of Gold Coast until June. In July, Blake relocates to Toowoomba for more than a year to continue contracting to Toowoomba Regional Council assisting with the flood studies, flood early warning systems and overland flow path mapping.
During this period WMS completes its first external project work – MIKE11 modelling for Sunshine Coast Regional Council and flood impacts assessment as a sub-consultant to SMEC.
Monika joins WMS and office lease is secured
Monika joins WMS as a Director and 50% shareholder in April 2015. New branding material is developed and an office lease is secured in the Brisbane CBD. In July, Daniel Knott is hired as a Graduate Engineer.
New hardware is purchased along with upgrades to the software licenses and formal training courses.
Formal policies are developed and a quality management system is implemented.
External project work is now undertaken on a regular basis.
In 2016 we have solidified our transition from one man band to boutique consultancy and have gained certification to ISO 9001:2015. We would appreciate the opportunity to discuss how our future can include your water challenge.
